Job Description:

The Trainee Engineer (Mechanical) supports the design, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC and Fire Fighting Systems for data center projects. The role involves assisting senior engineers with technical documentation, site inspections, troubleshooting, and ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards while gaining hands-on engineering experience.

Job Requirements

    • Graduate

    Skills & Tools:
    • Basic knowledge of HVAC, Fire Fighting, and MEP systems.
    • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit MEP, HAP, Pipe Flow, and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Understanding of mechanical drawings, BOQs, and technical documentation.
    • Knowledge of ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, and other relevant industry standards is an advantage.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
    • Willingness to learn, adapt, and work at project sites when required.

Duties & Responsibilities

    1.    Assist senior mechanical engineers in the design, execution, and commissioning of HVAC and Fire Fighting Systems for data center infrastructure projects.
    2.      Support the preparation and review of mechanical designs, including HVAC layouts, chilled water piping, DX cooling systems, InRow cooling, CRAC/CRAH units, ventilation systems, and fire protection systems.
    3.       Participate in the design and implementation of Fire Fighting Systems, including sprinkler systems, hydrant systems, clean agent fire suppression systems (FM-200, Novec 1230, Inert Gas), and fire detection & alarm interfaces.
    4.       Support the preparation of mechanical drawings, BOQs, technical specifications, equipment schedules, material submittals, and method statements.
    5.     Assist in reviewing contractor shop drawings, material submissions, and technical documents to ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.
    6.       Participate in site inspections to monitor installation quality of HVAC and Fire Fighting Systems, ensuring compliance with approved drawings, safety regulations, and engineering best practices.
    7.      Assist in troubleshooting mechanical equipment and system performance issues, participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and support implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
    8.      Help prepare and review Change Management Requests (CMR), Method of Procedures (MOP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOP) for mechanical system modifications.
    9.       Maintain and update mechanical documentation, including as-built drawings, O&M manuals, commissioning reports, inspection reports, and equipment records.
    10. . Monitor project progress, identify technical risks, and provide regular updates to senior engineers on installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
    11. Support preventive maintenance planning and performance monitoring of HVAC equipment, pumps, chillers, cooling towers (where applicable), precision air conditioning units, and Fire Fighting Systems.
    12.  Utilize engineering software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, HAP, Pipe Flow, and Microsoft Office to perform calculations, prepare documentation, and support engineering activities.
    13.  Continuously enhance technical knowledge through on-the-job training, mentoring, technical certifications, and participation in project reviews.

Reporting Responsibilities (Daily, Weekly & Monthly)

  • Daily Reporting:
    Submit a daily report summarizing the tasks completed, project or site activities performed, progress made, key observations, issues encountered, support required, and the planned activities for the next working day.

    Weekly Reporting:
    Submit a weekly report highlighting completed assignments, project progress, site visits, engineering support provided, key achievements, challenges faced, lessons learned, and the work plan for the upcoming week.

    Monthly Reporting:
    Submit a monthly report outlining overall project contributions, major tasks completed, technical skills developed, site and commissioning activities, documentation updated, key accomplishments, challenges encountered, and objectives for the following month.
