Pre-Sales Consultant / Solutions Engineer / Solution Architect

--Fortek Pvt Ltd.--

Job Description:

The Pre-Sales function is the technical engine behind every opportunity we pursue. The holder of this role owns the technical content of the sale — qualifying requirements, designing the solution, sizing and costing the bill of quantities, defending the design in front of the customer's technical evaluation committee, and handing a buildable, margin-accurate solution to the delivery team.

This is not a documentation role. The person in this seat is expected to influence which opportunities we pursue, challenge requirements that cannot be delivered profitably, and be the reason a technically superior bid wins against a cheaper one.

Location: Head Office, Islamabad (frequent site travel across Pakistan as per business needs)

Line Manager:

Pre-Sales Consultant, Solutions Engineer, Solution Design / Architect

Job Requirements

  • Skills & Tools:
    Essential:
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, IT or a related discipline.
    • Demonstrable experience designing and costing enterprise infrastructure solutions, with examples the candidate can walk through in detail.
    • Proven ability to write technical proposals and tender responses, and to produce an accurate BOQ under deadline pressure.
    • Strong presentation and written communication skills in English and Urdu; the ability to explain a technical trade-off to a non-technical decision maker.
    • Working knowledge of at least one major OEM ecosystem and its partner and pricing structures.

    Preferred

    • Relevant OEM or vendor certifications in server, storage, networking, virtualisation, data centre facilities or AI infrastructure.
    • Experience with public-sector procurement in Pakistan — PPRA rules, tender formats, technical evaluation processes and pre-bid meetings.
    • Exposure to data centre design standards such as TIA-942 or Uptime Institute tier classification.
    • Project management or ITIL foundation knowledge.

    Behavioral Competencies

    • Commercial judgement. Understands that a technically perfect design that loses money is a failure. Knows when to walk away from an opportunity.
    • Intellectual honesty. Will state a limitation to a customer rather than let an over-promise reach the delivery team.
    • Composure under scrutiny. Handles hostile technical questioning in an evaluation meeting without becoming defensive or conceding ground unnecessarily.
    • Ownership. Treats the deal as their own through to delivery, not as a document handed onward.
    • Learning velocity. The technology in this space turns over quickly; the person in this role is expected to stay ahead of it without being told to.

    Job Experience Required:
    • Experience: 10 – 15 years in pre-sales, solution architecture, or technical consulting within the ICT/data center system-integrator segment, including at least 3 years in a team leadership capacity.
    • Track Record: Demonstrated track record leading enterprise-scale bids and managing multi-million PKR technical proposals to successful close.
    • Technical & Commercial Depth: Strong multi-vendor architecture command and fluency in OEM commercial/partnership structures.
    • Leadership: Proven people-management experience, including mentoring and developing technical staff.

At Fortek, we believe in empowering our people. We offer:

Duties & Responsibilities

  • 1. Opportunity qualification and discovery

    • Join sales calls and customer meetings from first contact; run technical discovery workshops and site surveys to establish the real requirement behind the stated one.
    • Assess each opportunity for technical feasibility, delivery risk and commercial viability, and recommend pursue / no-pursue with reasons. Say no early rather than expensively.
    • Translate business outcomes into technical requirements, and document assumptions, exclusions and dependencies before any pricing is committed.

    2. Solution design and sizing

    • Design end-to-end infrastructure solutions across compute, storage, networking, virtualization, backup and disaster recovery, Data Centre power and cooling, and AI/GPU and HPC platforms.
    • Produce accurate sizing and capacity calculations, high- and low-level design documents, rack elevations, network and single-line power diagrams, and migration plans.
    • Build and own the Bill of Quantities: line-item accuracy, correct part numbers, licensing and subscription terms, warranty and support tiers, spares, installation effort and commissioning scope.
    • Design to the commercial target, not just the technical ideal — optimize configurations to protect margin without compromising what we have committed to deliver.

    3. Bids, proposals and tenders

    • Own the technical volume of proposals, RFP/RFI/EOI responses and public-sector tenders, including PPRA-governed submissions, and ensure full compliance with technical evaluation criteria.
    • Prepare compliance matrices, technical clarification responses and pre-bid query submissions within tender deadlines.
    • Coordinate OEM and distributor quotations, special pricing requests, deal registrations and manufacturer authorization or letters of support.
    • Work with sales to structure the commercial offer — CAPEX versus subscription, phased delivery, and payment milestones tied to deliverable stages.

    4. Customer engagement and technical advocacy

    • Present and defend solutions to customer technical teams, evaluation committees and senior stakeholders; handle objections and competitive comparisons on the spot.
    • Plan and run proof-of-concept exercises, demonstrations, benchmarks and pilot deployments, with clearly agreed success criteria defined before the POC begins.
    • Act as trusted technical advisor to key accounts, building the relationships that generate repeat and expansion business rather than one-off transactions.

    5. Handover, governance and enablement

    • Deliver a complete, unambiguous handover to delivery and project management: scope, design, BOQ, assumptions, risks and acceptance criteria. Remain available through implementation for design clarifications.
    • Keep CRM records accurate and current — stage, expected revenue, probability, expected close date, customer name and bid dates. Pipeline decisions are only as good as this data.
    • Maintain reusable design templates, reference architectures, sizing tools and a technical knowledge base; mentor junior pre-sales staff and brief the sales team on new technologies and partner programmes.
    • Maintain OEM relationships and certifications, and stay current on partner roadmaps, competitive positioning and pricing structures.

Reporting Responsibilities (Daily, Weekly & Monthly)

  • Daily Reporting:
    Daily Tasks:
Review flagship bid progress, resolve senior escalations, and align with Sales leadership on active deals

    Weekly Reporting:
    Weekly Tasks:
Chair Pre-Sales departmental review, Deal Desk session, and pipeline health report to leadership

    Monthly Reporting:
    Monthly Tasks:
Review departmental KPIs, OEM partnership performance, and team development/certification progress
