The Intern — Network & IT Support role is an exceptional entry-level opportunity designed for technically inclined final-year students or fresh graduates eager to build a robust career in network engineering and IT infrastructure. The intern will work directly alongside senior network engineers and IT managers, gaining hands-on exposure to enterprise-level ICT deployments, helpdesk operations, and data center environments under a structured mentorship program.

This role is ideal for candidates pursuing careers in Network Engineering, IT Administration, or Data Center Operations. High-performing interns are considered for conversion to full-time employment upon successful completion of the internship tenure.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • 1. Network Infrastructure Support

    •     Assist senior engineers in deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting of LAN/WAN networks including switches, routers, and access points (Cisco, MikroTik, Ubiquiti, HP/Aruba).

    •     Support installation and termination of structured cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, fiber optic) following EIA/TIA-568 standards.

    •     Assist in patch panel labelling, cable management, and rack organization within server rooms and data centers.

    •     Perform basic network diagnostics using tools such as ping, traceroute, ipconfig/ifconfig, and Wireshark to identify and document connectivity issues.

    •     Support VLAN configuration and WiFi network deployment tasks under supervision.

    •     Assist in IP address management (IPAM), network documentation, and maintaining network topology diagrams.

    2. IT Helpdesk & End-User Support

    •     Serve as first-line IT support for internal staff; log, track, and resolve hardware and software issues via the helpdesk ticketing system (Odoo 18 Helpdesk Module).

    •     Troubleshoot and resolve end-user issues related to desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, projectors, VoIP phones, and peripheral devices.

    •     Install, configure, and maintain operating systems (Windows 10/11, Windows Server) and standard business applications (MS Office 365, antivirus, email clients).

    •     Manage user account creation, modification, and deactivation in Active Directory (AD) / Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

    •     Assist in configuration and administration of email accounts, shared drives, and VPN access for staff.

    •     Escalate unresolved issues to Level 2 or Level 3 support with proper documentation and priority tagging.

    3. Server Room & Data Center Assistance

    •     Assist in monitoring of server room environmental parameters (temperature, humidity, UPS status, cooling).

    •     Support basic server administration tasks including OS updates, patch management, disk checks, and backup verification.

    •     Assist in rack mounting, cable dressing, and equipment labelling within data center enclosures.

    •     Participate in periodic preventive maintenance activities for IT and network equipment under engineer supervision.

    •     Monitor daily alerts from network monitoring tools (PRTG, Zabbix, or similar) and escalate anomalies promptly.

    4. IT Asset & Inventory Management

    •     Maintain an accurate and updated IT asset register covering all hardware (desktops, laptops, switches, access points, UPS, printers) within Odoo 18 Assets Module.

    •     Assist in tracking asset lifecycle, warranty records, AMC details, and disposal documentation.

    •     Conduct periodic physical verification of IT assets and reconcile inventory records.

    •     Support procurement processes by preparing BOQs for IT consumables (patch cables, connectors, toners, HDDs) as directed.

     

    5. Documentation & Reporting

    •     Prepare and maintain technical documentation including network diagrams, IP address registers, cable schedules, rack layouts, and equipment configuration notes.

    •     Update helpdesk logs, job sheets, and daily activity reports on a timely basis.

    •     Assist in compiling weekly IT support reports and network performance summaries for review by management.

    •     Maintain SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for common IT support tasks under guidance.

    6. Security & Compliance Assistance

    •     Support enforcement of IT security policies including password policies, access control lists, and software licensing compliance.

    •     Assist in monitoring for unauthorized devices, unusual network activity, and cybersecurity incidents; report findings immediately.

    •     Help maintain physical security of IT infrastructure: server rooms, equipment racks, and network closets.

    •     Participate in IT security awareness sessions and assist in communicating best practices to end-users.

    7. Vendor & Procurement Support

    •     Coordinate with IT vendors, ISPs, and equipment suppliers under the direction of the IT Manager for procurement follow-ups and delivery tracking.

    •     Assist in receiving, inspecting, and documenting IT equipment deliveries against purchase orders.

    •     Support warranty claim management and AMC coordination activities.

    8. Project Support

    •     Assist the project team in site surveys, equipment pre-staging, and material readiness checks for ICT infrastructure projects.

    •     Support on-site installation and commissioning activities during project execution phases under engineer supervision.

    •     Participate in handover documentation and client site walk-throughs as required.

Reporting Responsibilities (Daily, Weekly & Monthly)

  • Daily Reporting:
    * Log in to helpdesk ticketing system and review open/pending IT support tickets
    * Acknowledge and respond to new helpdesk tickets; assign priority levels
    * Resolve Level-1 IT support issues (hardware, software, connectivity)
    * Monitor network monitoring dashboard (PRTG/Zabbix) for alerts and anomalies
    * Check server room environmental alerts (temperature, UPS, cooling status)
    * Update resolved ticket status and add resolution notes in Odoo Helpdesk
    * Escalate unresolved or high-priority tickets to senior engineer with documentation
    * Ensure all IT assets used/modified during the day are updated in asset register
    * Prepare and submit Daily Activity Report (DAR) to reporting manager
    * End-of-day backup verification log review for critical systems

    Weekly Reporting:
    * Perform physical walkthrough of server room; check cable management and equipment status
    * Conduct physical verification of a batch of IT assets and reconcile with Odoo asset register
    * Review and update IP address management (IPAM) register for any new additions or changes
    * Test backup restoration of at least one non-critical system; log results
    * Update network topology diagram and documentation for any changes made during the week

    Monthly Reporting:
    * Compile and submit Monthly IT Support Performance Report (KPIs, SLA compliance, recommendations)
    * Conduct full physical IT asset verification and submit reconciliation report to IT Manager
    * Perform preventive maintenance checks on all network equipment (routers, switches, APs) and UPS systems
    * Update and archive all IT documentation: network diagrams, IP registers, cable schedules, rack layouts
    * Review all open and pending helpdesk tickets; prepare aging analysis and escalation summary
