Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Design Engineer with robust experience in end-to-end data center electrical design. This role focuses on conceptualizing, designing, and delivering reliable, efficient, and scalable electrical systems for mission-critical data centers. The ideal candidate will bring deep domain expertise in power distribution, backup power systems, UPS, ATS/MBTS, earthing & bonding, short-circuit studies, protection coordination, and compliance with international standards and best practices. This role demands proactive problem solving, cross-functional collaboration, technical leadership, and vendor coordination throughout the project lifecycle.

    • Master’s degree in Power Systems / Electrical Engineering / Energy Systems preferred.

    • Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP) / CDCS / CDCE

    • LEED AP or BREEAM (desirable for sustainability design)

    • ETAP / SKM / EasyPower power system software certification

    Job Experience Required:


    • 8 – 15+ years of progressive experience in electrical design engineering focused on data centers and mission-critical facilities.

    • Proven track record in power systems design, load flow analysis, and electrical distribution systems from conceptual to execution phases.

    • Hands-on experience with UPS systems, generators, ATS/MBTS, switchgear, power factor correction, earthing & lightning protection systems, and short-circuit & coordination studies.

    • Demonstrated involvement with FEED / Detailed Design, Tendering Support, Vendor Evaluation, Construction Supervision, and Commissioning of electrical works.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Strategic Design & Engineering

    • Lead electrical power system design for data centers, including power distribution (HV, MV, LV), standby generation systems, UPS, PDUs, ATS/MTS, and battery systems.

    • Develop single-line diagrams (SLDs), three-line schematics, cable schedules, load calculations, and detailed panel layouts.

    • Ensure designs meet redundancy (Tier 3/4), efficiency, and maintainability requirements.

    • Integrate electrical design considerations for critical environments, including power quality, harmonics, power factor correction, and coordination studies.

    • Establish grounding, bonding, lightning protection, and surge protection design consistent with international and national standards.

    Standards, Compliance & Documentation

    • Ensure electrical designs comply with local codes (NEC / Pakistan Electrical Rules), NFPA, IEEE, IEC, and data center best-practice frameworks.

    • Create comprehensive design documents, specifications, and BOQs for tendering and contractor engagement.

    • Review vendor drawings and specifications for compliance to project standards and design intent.

    • Maintain up-to-date electrical design libraries and standard templates.

    Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Work closely with MEP, civil, IT infrastructure, and commissioning teams to ensure integrated and constructible solutions.

    • Provide technical support to project managers, contractors, and procurement teams during design and execution phases.

    • Attend project coordination meetings and represent electrical design scope.

    Vendor & Contractor Management

    • Evaluate and qualify electrical equipment suppliers and validate technical proposals.

    • Review and approve submittals for electrical equipment (generators, UPS, switchgear, transformers, breakers, cables, distribution boards).

    • Support benchmarking and value engineering initiatives to optimize cost without compromising reliability.

    Quality Assurance & Risk Management

    • Perform design reviews, risk assessments, and HAZOP for electrical systems.

    • Identify design gaps and recommend mitigations to technical and operational risks.

    • Develop and enforce electrical design checklists and QA/QC standards.

Reporting Responsibilities (Daily, Weekly & Monthly)

    Address technical queries (RFI) from project and execution teams.
    Update design documents based on feedback.
    Coordinate with MEP/IT teams for integration checks.

    Complete system load calculations and resilience assessments.
    Update project trackers, risk logs, and design quality checklists.
    Liaise with procurement on technical specifications and vendor shortlisting.

    Deliver consolidated design progress reports to leadership.
    Perform peer technical reviews and design audits.
    Review and update electrical design standards and libraries.
    Validate performance of electrical systems during construction & commissioning phases.
