Job Description:

The Data Center Engineer will be responsible for end-to-end design, deployment, and lifecycle management of critical infrastructure systems including power, cooling, structured cabling, DCIM, BMS/SCADA, and fire protection systems. The role requires hands-on expertise in data center build-ups (from greenfield to commissioning) and integration with IT and facility systems, ensuring compliance with Tier design standards, OEM guidelines (Huawei, Schneider, APC, Vertiv, etc.), and ISO/IEC best practices.

This position demands a strong technical foundation, project execution acumen, and vendor coordination skills to deliver high-availability, energy-efficient, and scalable data center environments.

Location: Head Office, Islamabad (with occasional travel to client sites) or could be permanently stationed at a client site.

Job Requirements


  • Skills & Tools:

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical, or relevant field. Masters preferred.

    Data Center Certifications (Pro/Expert Level Recommended): CDCP / CDCS

    Certifications (Preferred/Required):

    • Huawei Certified Data Center Expert (HDCE/HDCA)

    • Schneider Electric Certified Data Center Specialist

    • Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer / Specialist

    • BICSI RCDD or Data Center Design Consultant (DCDC)

    • PMP or Prince2 (added advantage)

    Technical Skills:

    • Data Center Power Systems (UPS, PDU, Generators, ATS, STS)

    • Cooling Systems (CRAC/CRAH, Chillers, In-row, Precision AC)

    • Fire Detection & Suppression Systems

    • DCIM, BMS/SCADA configuration & reporting

    • Structured cabling, grounding, containment & labeling

    • Electrical safety standards (IEC/IEEE/NEC)

    • AutoCAD, Visio, and design documentation

    Soft Skills:

    Job Experience Required:

    5–8 years of proven experience in Data Center operations, preferably in an IT Integrator/Vendor environment. 

    Strong exposure to enterprise environments hosting mission-critical workloads.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • 1. Design & Implementation
    • Plan, design, and develop data center infrastructure including electrical power systems, cooling, network cabling, and rack layouts.
    • Prepare technical proposals, high-level designs (HLD) and low-level designs (LLD) in coordination with solution architects and project teams.
    • Supervise on-site deployment of UPS, PDUs, generators, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, and precision cooling systems.
    • Oversee installation of structured cabling, containment systems, earthing/grounding, labeling, and rack allocation.
    • Integrate and configure BMS, SCADA, and DCIM platforms for unified monitoring and automation.
    • Implement fire detection, alarm, and suppression systems (FM200, NOVEC, Inergen, etc.) in compliance with safety codes.
    • Support load analysis, redundancy design (N+1 / 2N), and Tier compliance verification.
    2. Monitoring & Maintenance
    • Continuously monitor all critical infrastructure components (UPS, cooling, fire, and power distribution).
    • Use DCIM tools to track asset performance, capacity utilization, and system health metrics.
    • Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance, ensuring minimal downtime.
    • Troubleshoot system and integration issues in collaboration with OEMs and vendor support.
    • Maintain operational adherence to SLA, uptime, and performance targets.
    3. Operational Excellence & Compliance
    • Develop and maintain SOPs, checklists, and maintenance protocols for all data center subsystems.
    • Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and capacity planning for expansions.
    • Ensure compliance with IEC, NEC, ISO 27001, and ASHRAE standards for electrical and mechanical systems.
    • Apply energy efficiency measures (PUE optimization, airflow management, hot/cold aisle containment).
    • Prepare and submit periodic reports on performance, incidents, maintenance, and improvement initiatives.
    4. Collaboration & Vendor Management
    • Coordinate closely with project managers, IT/network teams, and contractors during design and build stages.
    • Liaise with vendors and OEMs for equipment procurement, installation, and after-sales support.
    • Evaluate vendor performance to ensure compliance with technical and quality benchmarks.
    • Provide training and technical guidance to junior engineers and operations teams.
    5. Compliance, Safety & Sustainability
    • Enforce strict adherence to safety procedures, electrical standards, and PPE protocols.
    • Maintain documentation for audits, warranty claims, and asset lifecycle tracking.
    • Implement sustainability programs including renewable integration and green data center practices.
    • Participate in environmental audits and promote best practices for carbon and power efficiency.
    6. Testing, Commissioning & Handover
    • Lead pre-commissioning, testing, and final commissioning of electrical and mechanical subsystems.
    • Validate performance against design specifications, OEM standards, and Tier certification requirements.
    • Prepare as-built documentation, FAT/SAT reports, and commissioning records.
    • Support client acceptance testing, operational readiness reviews, and project handovers.

Reporting Responsibilities (Daily, Weekly & Monthly)

    Monitor real-time infrastructure dashboards (BMS/DCIM).
    Verify UPS load, temperature, and humidity thresholds.
    Log and respond to alarms and environmental alerts.
    Conduct walk-through inspections and report abnormalities.

    Weekly Reporting:
    Weekly Tasks:

    Perform backup tests for UPS/generators and check redundancy paths.
    Review vendor maintenance logs and performance reports.
    Update system documentation and issue tracker.
    Conduct small-scale calibration and housekeeping checks.

    Monthly Reporting:
    Monthly Tasks:

    Execute full preventive maintenance schedule.
    Conduct safety drills and system performance reviews.
    Present monthly health reports to management.
    Review and optimize power and cooling efficiency metrics (PUE trend).
